OMG. The puppies have grown sooo beautiful . I knew that everyone of them was soo special. They are so loving and fiesty at the same time- Just like a parti colored cocker is suppose to be.

I can not believe they are going home. I have made my pick of the litter and I will tell you about them later. It was one of the most difficult decisions I really ever had to make in regards to this. I really agonized about it for weeks- but in the end I took the puppy that I thought would grow into a gorgeous show dog- and also the one who was connected to my heart-stay tuned...

Violet & Vincent 5 Weeks Old

Well I love watching these puppies much more than doing anything else- especially laundry, cleaning and regular chores- which is what I am behind in cause all i want to do is play with the puppies. Good thing they sleep lots of the day- cause then my family would not eat...LOL But I have been enjoying taking them outside. And I think they like it too- because they WHIIIIIIIIINE when they want attention or come out to play. Then when they come in they sleep for HOURS. They are very expressive..(HA) I can't wait for Vincent's Mom Kathy (my handler) to come and see them! She will be here in a few weeks right before they are ready to go to their new homes. Violet loves them but they are now overpowering her..See the attached pic of her asking me when they are leaving?

Oh My Goodness- the puppies are getting so big and cuddly. They wrestle with each other, are eating mish mash food, play with their toys- are wiggly for haircuts, tell me how they feel with growls and barks. They are just very active now. Violet is looking to escape any way she can and them comes looking for them a few hours later. I think they are certainly overwhelming to her now that they have BIG SHARP TEETH....LOL But for a first time mom- she was good. She does love to play with them- but you can see she gets nervous when they are really hungry...LOL! They are like little scavengers. I am very happy with every one of them and it will make my job very difficult to pick one to keep in a few weeks. I am anxious for the weather to get a little warmer so they can go outside and play.

WOW- THis week went by super fast and the puppies are really growing and now they started playing and mouthing each other and really starting to get SUPER CUTE> WE are hopeful the we will keep one for ourselves- but which one will we choose??? I don't even know which one yet as they are all so special. Enjoy!

Violet & Vincent 2 Weeks Old

I can not believe these puppies started walking around before their eyes even opened. THis week I was able to speak personally to all the people waiting to get one. All very lovely families indeed and everyone is just as excited as me. I am so lucky for them to have contracted me. Everyone is growing like a weed and so is their hair- they got their first face trim. SOme even told me how they felt about by grunting and giving me a hard time..LOL! Unimaginable at 2 weeks old!!! THey spend most their day snuggling all together and very content. I can not wait to see how they will grow in the next few weeks.

Vince & Violet 1 week old...

Wow- I can't believe a week has already passed. Most of the puppies have doubled in size and are doing very well. Violet took a little while to take on her role as mother but she is doing great now. The only thing she refuses to do is clean their rears- but I think somewhere down the line she heard that champions don't do that....other than that she is very loving and attentive to them. Each of the puppies is filling out and I love each and everyone more and more. They are sooo nice. I truly am in love with each and everyone of them. It has been a little while since a litter of this size and I have to say 6 is the perfect number. I have had litters of 1 and 9 and can tell you six is totally the best! They are very happy puppies...

VIolet and Vincent Puppies Arrive 3/31/11

We are so excited that our long awaited breeding of Vincent (Ch. Tell Tails Proof Positive) and Violet (Ch. Schiely's Mystic Breeze) have delivered us 6 gorgeous puppies. VIncent is one of my favorite all time boys. He taught me what reach and drive was suppose to look like and contrary to what some people think is one of the most important traits a sporting dog can possess. I had the pleasure of watching 8 year old Vincent win the Best in Show of Veterans at the Milton, NY dog show in March. It was very exciting as we cheered him on and was professionally handles by his partner Haley Hesskew. I also was lucky enough to attend Westminster Kennel Club dog show in NYC in February to cheer him and Haley on. It was such a memorable weekend (Love you Vince!)

Both Violet and Vincent are up to date on CERF and have have their hips registered with OFA.

We are planning on keeping a puppy from this litter and do have some wonderful homes already waiting for the puppies we do not keep for ourselves. Thank you for the inquiries.

MDG's Garden Parti : "Dahlia"

We are happy to announce that after having her evaluated for the showing- MDG's Garden Parti aka Dahlia has the makings of a beautiful showgirl and conforms to the breed standard nicely. She has nice conformation with a sassy showgirl attitude to match. When she was born we knew she was special- and as she started to grow- she just got more beautiful by the day. But it was not really about her beauty- because all puppies are cute- but it was about her presence. She could just make your head turn and say "look at me". I do love that about her. She is comically funny and fiesty all at the same time.

She has gone to stay and train with her grandma Kathy in Pennsylvania. There we get reports that free-stacks in front of the fridge to get a treat, trots around with her tail in the air with her toys, loves to meet new people and get their undivided attention. Cuddles, watches TV and naps with Jimmy (Kathy's Hubby) and LOVES BOLOGNA.

We look forward to her show career starting in June 2011. She will be coming back to New York second weekend of June for a 4 day show in Yorktown Heights, NY. I look forward to seeing how she has grown. If you are in the area we would love to see you there. Your can also look for her in Sturbridge, MA at the ASC Nationals in the 6-9 puppy class. If Dahlia finishes her championship- she will be our first homebred champion which would be very special to us.

Honeysuckle is a Champion

So I traveled 9 hours with my brother and his girlfriend, Diana in a snowstorm to see Honeysuckle show- not knowing if she would come home with me. She only needed 1 point to finish and there actually turned out to be a magor- so there was alot of compitition. On Sunday- she took it home. She looked so beautiful and gaited around the ring with elegance. SHe was not a puppy anymore- she was so grown up. Kathy Korab did such a wonderful job presenting her. Her husband, Jimmy did an even better job of spoiling her. She went to Kathy's as a puppy and she grew up in Jimmy's arms- sleeping in bed with him each night. She loved to cuddle and he loved her very much and it shows. Well- she came home on Sunday- and I have to say she might just be one of the most loving dogs I have ever met. She ran into my 6 year old's arms like she knew her forever. She is truly a merry soul. Thank you Kathy and Jimmy for taking such wonderful care of her; it could not show more.

Junior Handler, Haley Hesskew

I just wanted to take this opportunity to Congratulate Haley Hesskew, Kathy Korab's (our handler) daughter. Not only did she did she finish as the #1 Junior Handler for our breed (in all 3 vareties) to get her a special invitation to Westminster in February 2011; but she also won best Junior Handler at American Spaniel Club in January 2011. An article about Haley was featured in SHOWSIGHT Magazine in the January Issue. She handles Vinny's father, "Vince", Ch. Tell-Tail's Proof Positive. Congratulations Haley!

Vinny in Showsight Magazine- January 2010

We were very honored that Vinny was chosen to be included in the January 2010 issue of Showsight magazine. I only had a day to design the ad and was relieved when I sent it in on time. Vinny was chosen because he ranked in the top 10 Parti Cocker Spaniels for most of 2010. We are very proud of his accomplishments and are looking forward to seeing his nice qualities in his puppies.

Violet Comes Home

We are really excited that our Violet, also known as Ch. Schiely's Mystic Breeze is home. We picked her up in Albion, NY at the dog show. It was a fun weekend. I got to meet alot of really great breeders and see their puppies. Violet has settled in and is a joy to have in the house. I cut her show coat off and she has left that world behind. She has bonded with me and really likes Rose. She loves to play, gets along with everyone and I do not think she has a mean bone in her body. She is just tooo sweet- and a really wonderful pet. And now that her show career is over I am looking forward to her being just that. A lovely pet. She will not eat anything she is not suppose to - except likes to carry around Acorns from outside. She can run really really fast. She is really a very pretty girl . I am very proud of her. I would like to take this time to thank our handler, Kathy Korab for taking such wonderful care of her. She came back in such pristine condition - it was really a joy. We look forward to all great things from Violet including some super lovable, fancy show puppies. Welcome home Violet! Hot Dog Fest 2010

I am please to announce that this years 2nd Annual Hot dog fest was a great success. It was originally planned for July - but with temperatures reaching in the 100's it was postponed for a few months. And I am sure glad we did; the weather was absolutely perfect and the dogs got to run in the park. We recently widened the park some more- so the dirt was very fresh- but the dogs certainly did not mind- it called to them to DIG!

This year we added some fun with a relay race.

Teams were divided into Team Demspey and Team Dillon. The object was to pass a pooper scooper with a fake hot dog in it to your team members while racing (or for most walking briskly) with your dog on leash. There was no winner because of a miscount- but everyone sure had fun. Everyone brought something yummy to share and it was certainly a really fun day. There were shirts with the Original Hot Dog Fest Logo on them, an optional doggie grab bag, we had some lovely additions of perennials to add to the garden thanks to Lila, Lacey and Bailey

We even had a champagne toast for Cate and Troy (Sable aka Zinnia's parents) because they recently got engaged. We celebrated Daphne's birthday because it was her birthday the next day. In total there were 20 dogs and about 40 people. Thank you to everyone for all that they brought and for taking such wonderful care of their dogs and socializing them so an event like this can take place. Thanks for all that shared pictures too!! New Logo for Moondrop Gardens

I am not a great illustrator- but Sandy Gilette is. She followed my instructions to a tee and together we created a new logo that I am in love with. Thanks Sandy!

Where is LILY???????

Lily is co-pilot and accompanies her dad Marty on his jounreys all across America for deliveries. Recently we decided to follow Lily and keep you updated on her travels riding shotgun. . She is having a blast traveling around the country. She have been in Ny,Pa,Oh,In,Il,Wi,Ia,Mo,Ar,Tn,Ga,Sc,Nc,Wv,Va,Mn,Mi, and Al. Not bad for her first two weeks on the road. Daniel at Moondrop Gardens

Yesterday was a hard day for us. We had to put my 10 year old cat Daniel to sleep. They think cancer. Daniel was my first pet that I ever had of my own. He loved me like no other and he was my first baby. He took me through alot of hard times in my life and gave me a reason to get up in the morning on some of those days i did not want to (before of course my human child came along). He acted like a dog bc he knew how much I always wanted one. He was devoted, gentle and connected to me in every way. When we moved and after I was home with Rose and got the dogs- Daniel had to share me with them- but had solace in the fact that when it came down to it he was the only one who could fit in my lap and took advantage of it every time he could get. Daniel seemed to not be himself for a few weeks and last Thursday I took him to the vet- they did blood work and everything checked in OK- but he seemed to be sensitive to his kidney area to be touched. I made an appointment to have an ultrasound for Monday. Daniel's health drastically declined and Sunday night I took him in to the Emergency clinic. They did X-rays and said that he had alot of air in his belly and intestines and that most likley they were thinking cancer. It was the hardest thing for me to do- but the way he looked at me I felt that he was telling me it was OK- he was ready. I was there for him and it was hard to let go- but I wanted to share the most amazing part of my story.

When I left the vets the RAIN poured down on me and I felt like all those drops were my tears and there were so many of them and it was how I felt. But after I got out of the car again- and looked in the sky there was a Rainbow. I took a picture of it bc no one would have believed me if I told them. Jim was in awe. The rainbow to me signified not only Daniels PRIDE- but Rainbow Bridge where he will be meeting me one day. I thanked God for giving me that sign- it gave me closure and is helping me cope. I am still in the very early part of my grieving- but I have HOPE and know that Daniel is where he of course was meant to go and he will be meeting me there..

While attending Obedience Class with Sassy - Rose went around the course with Kerry Blue Terrier, Belle (the instructor Carol's dog) to show Sassy how it was done. Rose caught on very quickly and here is a glimpse of what an obedient dog should look like. Sassy has some more years of training to learn..LOL! Rose did rather well for not really knowing how to read fluently at the age of 5.

It's that time again to say goodbye to our babies. As always they all touched our hearts at Moondrop Gardens and not one will be forgotten. They were so wonderfully tempered and were really really beautiful. I enjoyed my time with them all so much. I know each puppy will have a wonderful family to spoil them and I am glad that I met them all.

Puppies 7 weeks old!

Oh My- this week the puppies got a chance to go the the Moondrop Gardens Park and went crazy. They could not run fast enough for their feet - they kept fumbling all over themselves. They got to play with all the other dogs and they loved it. They had so much space to romp they did not know where to go first or what to rip out of the ground and chew on. Last week we had a trench in the ground bc we had to lay some pipe- so the park was ripped up a bit- hope it will be back to normal in a few weeks... This weekend some of our puppies will be going home. I can not believe it. This time HAS definitely gone by the fastest. Winter litters are always harder bc we can't go outside- but this spring litter was alot of fun!!! Perfect time to go home and get potty training- so there should be no excuses from this bunch!! This week they will be visiting the vet, getting their shots, getting a bath and being groomed for the last time.

WOW! The puppies are up and running around- so much change since last week. Some breeders allow puppies to go home now- but this is a crucial time for them to learn from their littermates how to play correctly and socialize themselves. They are eating their food dry and doing EXCELLENT on it.Wellness for Puppies in the yellow bag... Don't forget to purchase a bag before they come home. It is available at Petco. They lap water when they are thirsty and sure do like to play with all different kinds of toys. They enjoy going outside and romping around til they fall asleep on my front porch. The puppies sleep together now and have visits from their moms occasionally. It is time for them to be weaned from their moms and are doing well. Please enjoy the pictures. We are having lots of fun now- it will only be a few more weeks til they go home...

Puppies 5 weeks old

Running, jumping, barking and growling (and yes some biting!)...Playing with toys and running to say hello when I show myself. All the puppies are up and away and learning more every day. I keep both litters together during this transition period while they eat breakfast and most of the day and still sleep with their mommas at night. By next week they will eat crunchy food instead of soft, spending less time with their moms and will be closer to going to their new homes. Everyone came to visit from far and near to visit their new puppy this past weekend. It was a pleasure to meet all the families and talk with them. I always am reassured that I made the right choice for them to take a puppy when I meet personally with them. Each and every family is ready to open their homes and hearts to their new addition.

Everyone was impressed with Dragonfly's size bc of course he has been the biggest for a while- but Firefly has learned to stick up for himself and the last few times I heard a cry - it was coming from poor Dragon- with his tan points he resembles a bully- but rest assured - he loves kisses and loves to be held- he is the most mature to date and loves to explore.

Firefly has found his wings and is jumping and playing with everything. He still cries for his mom sometimes when she is not around- but has come to accept me better and know I am bringing something good for him most of the time.

Lala's Forest Friends

The 3 little musketeers are a few days younger then the Fly boys and take their time catching up. They are cute as can be and are developing their personalities.

Bunny- the only girl between the 2 litters holds her own very well, enjoys being loved by Rose (bc she is the only girl) and loves to give kisses. Bobby is having fun challenging Dragonfly because he can...LOL! He also is getting used to his kisses and likes to bark to get attention. I am falling in love with each of them- its always hard to think they will be going home in less than 3 short weeks (well - most of them)..LOL!

Puppies 1 Month Old

Delilah's Fly Boys:

Well it did not take long for the fly boys to figure out how to rough each other up once their new teeth started to come in. Just like baby boys I am constantly telling them to give it up! And boy do they miss their mama (just like real boys) when she takes a romp in the park with her friends. Delilah seems to be happy that they are old enough for her to start playing with. They have started to drink water and eat a little bit although some puppies are more excited about their food than others. They just got their new haircuts and are getting ready for their families to come and visit them for the first time next weekend. It is a joy to see them starting to play. Dragonfly is the bully to date and Firefly whines for his mamma when she is not around the loudest...LOL

Lala Forest Friends

These puppies are starting to really getting active. It's so much fun to watch them wrestle and roll. Bunny is hysterical- she is the littlest of the group but seems to have no fear. She loves to get out of the box and take a stoll around as the other boys cry at the slightest change in temperature...LOL! They all love to be held and Bunny loves to give kisses back on your nose. They are growing so fast and it is hard to believe they are already a month old. The fun is just really starting (and the real work too..LOL) I think they are all very very pretty puppies... but maybe I am biased. Their markings are nice and bright and they are so sweet- all of them.

Thank you for your interest in these puppies- but they have all found their forever homes.

WOW! All I can say as I really think they are getting cuter by the day! They are wobbling around and get VERY excited when their mamma comes in to see them. Then they sure do move FAST> other than that they are sleepyheads. All of Lala's puppys are reserved- thank you for your inquiries and your wonderful compliments. It is nice to know all the time and effort and pride we take does not go unnoticed- and thank you to the people who keep up with our blog and aren't even getting a puppy..LOL!

Delilah's Fly Boys 3 weeks old

WOW- time is going so fast! I can not believe these boys are already 3 weeks old. Firefly has shown his brother up by taking the first steps of wobbling- but that is bc I think Dragon is going to need more strength to get his belly off the ground. The both love to sleep and sleep and sleep- oh and did I mention eat? It was funny how when I started to take pictures of them Delilah immediately decided that she wanted to be a part of the fun. She sat sown and waited for me to take a picture- and then she licked them all up...I guess she wanted you all to know what a great momma she is!!! Happy First Mother's Day Delilah!

Sassy starts Obedience

From the minute I let Sassy go in the park I knew she had something special. She would take off with passion and move so gracefully and with ease with pure vigor. I thought Dempsey was fast- but this little pip is passionate. We are starting obedience today and will transition into Rally in a few months. I am anxious to see if Sassy has what it takes to do Agility. I think it will be a lot of fun. Wish us luck. Sassy is now 6 month old.

Dillon

Last year when we went to Florida Beth and Teaghan and Duhblain baby sat Dillon. He loved it there so much and she spoiled him so- he almost did not want to come home with me.

So when we decided to retire Dillon for breeding- it was only the most suitable choice for him to live with Beth. She has always loved him as much as her own and they all get along really very well- A nice pack if I do say so myself. She now has a cocker in every variety.

I am happy that she will care for him and spoil him with everything shes got. I do see Beth on a regular basis and know I will visit with Dillon all the time. Dillon's new name is Finnion- or "Fin" as Beth thinks DOOOLIN and DIIIIIILon are too close in pronunciation. LOL!

No- I had no intention of adding a buff girl to our clan- as a matter of fact I consider to specialize in sables and partis...well- Jim had other plans. Kathy called him up and asked if he was interested in this little girl. She was a dream- had the merriest of temperaments, came from nice, old clean lines and has a beautiful pedigree. As time went on she got more gorgeous by the day. Kathy convinced Jim that this little girl would be a beautiful asset to our breeding program and then gave her to us. She knows well how our dogs are taken care of and she knew that we would certainly want to show her because she is gorgeous-that is was made into a plan. I have to say that these boys are BIG- I may have to rename from Delilah's Fly boys to Delilah's FAT boys. Dragonfly looks like a guinnie pig- not a tiny puppy weighing in at 1 pound 14 ounces....without so many puppies to share with they sure have their milk at every beck and call. Delilah is a delightful mother- I am very proud of her - she is very clean and likes her box to be clean and she also likes to take her time int he morning to have breakfast with her friends and take a romp in the park.....The marking on these boys is AMAZING. Nice dark red like momma and pretty perfect symmetrical markings like daddy.... Super happy with the way they are growning.

Daphne goes HOME...

I never knew there were so difficult parts about being a breeder. I mean every job has its challenging aspect- but who would have thought

I always knew that when Daphne had her last litter I would make it my intention to find her wonderful home where she could be the only dog and be spoiled beyond belief. Those of you who got the chance to meet her personally know that she is is needy of attention and considering I have 6 dogs- and 1 child my time is very divided. I always knew it would have to be the most ideal situation for her as she is unique in personality and has a mind of her own sometimes.

I had mentioned to Margaret about Daphne and after seeing her pictures she was anxious to meet her. She came in the beginning of the week with her daughter and it was UNBELIEVABLE how I knew the moment I met them it would be the best situation for Daphne. First she only lives 19 minutes from us which is key in case Rose misses Daphne

The situation for Daphne was idea and Margaret and her family had missed their dog Katie since she passed and was anxiously ready to open their heart again to another dog. They seemed to have alot of love to give.

Yesterday I was very sad while I groomed her and got her ready to leave. Once I started talking to her and thanking her for all she has done for me- telling her if it was not for her I would have never become a breeder and thanking her her making it so easy for me and thanking her for always being a wonderful mother - and thanked her for making the cutest puppies on the face of the earth----my heart became so sad.

On the ride to Margaret's house I turned on the radio- and the song "Because you Loved me" was on as I listened I felt Daphne was speaking to me...

You were my strength when I was weak

You were my voice when I couldn't speak

You were my eyes when I couldn't see

You saw the best there was in me

Lifted me up when I couldn't reach

You gave me faith 'coz you believed

I'm everything I am

Because you loved me ..

of course I began to cry and wonder if I was making the right decision.

But as soon as I got there and immediately noticed that Margaret's house was a "HOME". It was just the right size for Daphne and had a cute little backyard for her romps. I met Margaret's hubby and Daphne seemed to feel comfortable with him. He thought she was the cutest thing. We let her loose in the house and she made her rounds sniffing and being curious. Margaret's son came home and after a few biscuits of course Daphne was his best friend too - Veronica, her daughter had already gotten a few kisses from her. I could feel that this was the right place. The living room was comfy with a nice big cushy ottoman. I was waiting for the sign from Daphne that is was OK- and I could leave. After about an hour she jumped on the ottoman and made herself comfy on it. Rolled on her back and was waiting for some belly rubs. That was it- it was my sign. I was sooo relieved that she felt it ...she found her home- a place where she could get unlimited belly rubs and not have to share her toys- eat her cookies in peace- and of course continue to be queen.

Daphne retired from Moondrop Gardens (leaving her crown to Lala) -she has moved on her her happy new home but will go down in our history as the first matriarch of our breeding program. We can only hope our future will continue to be filled with the same blessings that Daphne has given us "healthy, happy, adorable cocker spaniels...."

Thank you Margaret and family for welcoming Daphne in your home and giving her the chance to be spoiled for the rest of her life.

Ryely goes HOME to Maine

It is wonderful news that Ryely has gone home to Maine with his new family. Ryely was a singleton puppy born with a hairlip ( not to be miatken with a cleft palette). It took alot of love and time to save his life - but was ooooh so worth it. He was incredibly the most loving and affectionate dog ever. I guess that is what hand feeding a puppy from the minute of birth every three hours a day for 4 weeks will give you.

I am so happy for Ryely- I get updates regularly and he is getting along with his new pack of cockers in his new family where is is very much loved. Thank you Liz and Daniel for seeing well beyond the surface. Ryely is a beautiful and handsome boy!

Not only did Lala get to celebrate her 3rd birthday on April 19th- but she got to celebrate the birth of her puppies that day as well. Lala delivered 1 Tri Boy: Buck, 1 Red and White boy: Bobcat and 1 Tri Girl: Bunny....I got alot of slack from friends that I went off the flower path- but we do have bunnies, bobcats and bucks in our garden- believe it or not. All the babies are doing well and are anxious to see what they will look like when they get a little bigger.

We are pleased to announce to birth of Delilah's puppies on Saturday- April 17, 2010.

There was 1 Tri Girl: Mayfly, 1 Tri boy: Dragonfly and 1 Red and white boy: Firefly. As a first time mom I was concerned about how Delilah would handle it. She amazed me. It was like she was looking forward to caring for these puppies all her life. As a few days went on I knew that little Mayfly was not doing well and even though I did everything I could - feeding her every 2 hours - she passed to Rainbow bridge just a few short days after she was born. Delilah was left with her 2 boys who she is very attentive to and loves very much.

Garden gets Bombarded with Snow...

Snow, snow and more snow. I have to say I am ready for spring. We got almost 3 feet of snow this past week- it was really very beautiful and inconvenient at the same time. We lost power- and internet and television. There was no school for 2 days. We are lucky enough to have a generator and a wood stove- but 100,000 peoples power were effected by the storm. There was so much snow in the dogs pen that they were jumping over the gate and swimming in the snow

That gate is 4 feet high! Rose did get to spend some time with her favorite puppies out in the snow.

Puppies 7 weeks

Well its hard to believe after this week we will have to say goodbye to our puppies. They are so big and gorgeous and so happy. Its hard for me to say goodbye because I do love them all so much- but of course I have my regular life to get back to that usually gets put on hold when I have a litter. I can tell my friends I can come out to play again and Rose and my own dogs will get the attention they deserve. They don't mind it a few times a year- but that is why we will never have too many litters a year. It is always enjoyable and each of the puppies is always special. They will always have a name to us and we will keep in touch with them and their family as they grow.

Puppies Go to School

Rose's kindergarten class has an opportunity for parents and friend's to come in on a Monday and read a book to the class. It is called Mystery Reader Monday. I had already planned many weeks ago to come in with a few puppies and read and funny enough Rose had inquired about when I was going to come since everyone else's mom came in. I kept telling her that I had to "make an appointment". More spectacular than the look on the little children's face when they came in to a room with 4 puppies in it- was my daughter's who was so happy that I could be there to read. I read one of my favorite books "Too Many Puppies:" By Patience Brewster. Amazon describes the book : Delighted when her dog Milly has seven puppies, a little girl wants to keep them all, until she sadly realizes that so many puppies require much more work than she can accomplish. Its funny because I know Rose feels the same way as the main character, Milly in the book and was happy to share with her class. We brought to school 1 puppy of each color, 2 boys and 2 girls: Xanthium, Yasmin, Woody and Ulex. All those puppies got some extra socialization, lots of oooohs and ahhhs, and were greeted by the wonderment of the kids. They all thanked me before they left (including the principal), said goodbye to all the puppies and Rose gave me a big hug before she went back to class. It was a good day....

Puppies 6 Weeks

Oh My!!!

It was so funny making the video this week- because you will tell by the haphazard footage what has been going on. Puppies are running rampant and causing chaos! I almost got the camera knocked out of my hands 10 times. We get them out to run and explore and even if they have already pottied- they find it necessary to go again in their new world- MY kitchen. Running, playing and having fun is what their day is all about (besides sleeping, eating and pooping). As soon as I clean up a mess they just make some more. Funny how people ask about Rose and how she will miss the puppies. She really does miss them- but its hard for her to handle them all at once as you can see in the video at this age. She is always getting pulled and chomped on. She does love them though. We took a big tube in for piping that we had outside (I would have loved to rinse it off- but my hoses are off) and they had a BLAST!! The puppies will be 8 weeks next Monday. Boy did that go fast>>>>! Each one has their own little personality- one more sweet than the next. I am sure everyone will be soo happy.

Puppies 5 Weeks

This week went by quickly as the rest of the final weeks will. The puppies are developing their personalities and getting ready to leave the nest. They are eating their food-and Daphne stops in to check them out but I separate her more and more. On Saturday we met many of the families that will be taking the puppies home for PUPPY DAY. I am grateful that each and everyone of the puppies will be spoiled and well taken care of in their new home. They all got baths before the visit and little haircuts. They are all big puppies now. I am really enjoying watching them have fun- although now they make BIG BIG puppy messes. LOL

Happy Birthday Delilah

She went for her OFA testing and my vet said everything looked good. We look forward to breeding her this year and are very confident her puppies will be so cute and cuddly.

Puppies, Puppies, Puppies! they are getting so big and beautiful. They are now eating their big puppy food just watered down a little bit. They all love it and their little bodies have transitioned very well. We are feeding them Holistic Select Puppy which the main protein is Anchovies, Sardines and Chicken. First I was not really into the anchovies part- but I thought I would try it because I have been feeding Holistic Select to my cats always and they love it and thrive on it and the past few times feeding Canidae to the puppies I had to really crush it down because the kibbles are so big- so I decided to change and try it out- so far I am impressed. Sometimes it takes them a little while to transition- but everyone seems to be doing well. They play and bark and make a BIG mess now that they eat their food. They step in their bowl and jump on each other- I am happy Daphne is such a good mom- she always cleans them up so well...This week I was pressed for some time- so I took some nice candids- that are easier to take now that they do not want to stand still... Next week I will try to give their haircuts. They are very fluffy now and I can just hear my handler Kathy saying "when she gonna cut their hair??"LOL!

Puppies 3 Weeks old

Well the puppies are 3 weeks old and acting more an more just like little dogs. Playing and barking, whining and biting toys. They still rely on mom for love and food of course- and get very excited when she takes a break away from them. They are really starting to develop some personality in in the next few days we will venture to the unknown (upstairs to the house) where peace and quite will be no more and they can familiarize themselves with household noise and activity. Here are some updated pictures: Its still hard to get a good picture of the red coming in on the Red and white parti girls- I have to see about different lighting- but for now....

PS- all puppies noses will be all black- some take longer for pigment to come in.

Snowdrop's left ear is red and right ear is white...and she has patches of red on both eyes.

Puppies 2 Weeks Old

Puppies are two weeks old an getting much bigger and are sooo adorable. They are starting to wobble around and take some big steps- it won't be before long that they are running around causing chaos! Some puppies are spoken for and we could no be happier with their new owners.

I took the puppies out of their whelping box for change of scenery and a little excitement. They did not know what to do woth themselves and Daphne seemed ticked off that I caused a ruccus- but it was worth it. Enjoy!

Puppies 1 Week Old

They puppies are gaining weight at just the right speed and are already over 1 pound. Daphne is doing wonderful and gets her morning exercise when I go out to get the eggs for the day- she comes with me and chases the chickens around the coupe. Then when I reach the door to the house to come in - she is already to come inside (she doesn;t want anyone to be near her puppies when she is not there..LOL).

Here are some updates pics of the puppies. Some are already opening their eyes and getting ready to wobble around. I spend time now daily playing with then and petting them and Rose is allowed to play with them now that they are not SO delicate. They even have gotten their nails trimmed already. Our red and white parti girls and getting their spots and will all look very different and totally adorable.

Next week we will start taking deposits on our puppies and we already have some people on the waiting list

Snowdrop will have a a large patch of red over her right eye and some spots on her back. Her nose will be black and her eyes are open.

Valerian will have a large patch of red over her left eye and a small on her right- plus spots on her back and tail.

Xanthia will have a patch over her left eye and NO patch on her right eye plus spots on her back.

Violet takes 2nd place at ASC Nationals

We are very proud of our Violet aka Schiely's Mystic Breeze who took 2nd place in the 12-18 month parti bitches class at ASC Flushing Spaniel Show. This is their national winter show. I was unable to attend bc I had puppies to babysit- but Jim was happy to fill in. He learned alot while he was there and got introduced to some very nice people who have had major infuences on our breed. I would like to thank Kathy Korab our handler for continuously helping us learn and for doing such a nice job with Violet in her training, grooming, care taking and socialization. She received a beautiful red rosette ribbon that we will cherish forever.

New Puppies in the Garden

Daphne has blessed us with a beautiful litter of 8 gorgeous colorful puppies. She was wonderful enough to start laboring at 10 AM and took her sweet time like always until 10 PM. Wonderful meaning she waited til the morning...

It was nice of God to give us just enough puppies to fill up the rest of the alphabet for temporary names. But honestly it was a chore to come up with names for X and U.

These pictures were taken 4 days old

Snowdrop is very open marked red and white parti. Anxious to see where her red will show up.

Tulip is a gorgeous colored buff with an adorable blaze up her stop to her forehead and she has white tipped fit and a white chest. So cute!

Ulex is a nice sable parti boy. His coloring is so gorgeous I can not wait to show in pictures how nice it really is. The lighter tan is glistening through already and he will have prominent tan points too!

Valerian is a cute little Red and White parti girl who will be open marked too. I am pretty sure she will have a half face- but time will tell.

Woody is an adorable buff boy with white markings on his face and chest. He will be very unique to say the least. These buff puppies coloring is IDENTICAL to their moms. Buff in the darker side - almost red... It's really nice in person.

Xanthium is the only name I could come up with for X- but she is a cutie. She is the most heavily marked of our red/white girls and has allot of spots that are darker already. One ear is very dark and she has a kiss spot on her head.

Yasmin is our pretty black and tan girl. She has a nice white chest, chin and and cute little socks on her hind feet. Her tan is very vibrant already.

Zinnia was our surprise girl. Just when I thought Daphne had delivered her last - Zinnia was a gorgeous surprise. A lovely sable and white parti girl with tons of sable color on her back.

These are the puppies after they can home from getting their tails docked. They did very well and everyone healed quickly.

Meet our New Showgirl

We have added a new showgirl to our family. Scheily's Mystic Breeze is a dream come true. On November 22nd, 2009 Jim drove us all the way to to Ohio to see our new girl Violet in her first show. It was very exciting for all of us including Rose who learned how to gait a dog and helped Kathy brush them. We got to meet Violet for the first time and she was more beautiful then we could have ever expected. We also had the opportunity to meet Bev, her breeder and thank her for our pretty show girl. Violet went in the ring against her littermate sister and took Winners Bitch (WB) and Best of Winners (BOW) and Opposite Sex (OS) for a total of 2 points toward her championship which was a great accomplishment for her weekend out. Colleen sent us some DARLING professional photos done by PetSmart a few weeks ago. Ginger (Azalea) was our first born cocker and is very special to us. Not only is she a gorgeous sable- but she looks like her mom and dad- and is the opitomy of what a Moondrop Gardens cocker spaniel represents. We know she is very loved and are grateful to Colleen and John for taking such good care of her. Thank you for sharing!

CERF Eye Testing

In August we loaded up the car with all our breeding dogs and drove 2.5 hours to Long Island. Noelle La Croix, DVM examined all the dogs for hereditary eye diseases and any potential eye problems. All the dogs checked out clear and will receive their CERF certificate shortly. This is an annual exam and I wanted to let everyone know if you are in reasonable driving distance and need to have these tests done it would be worth your while to visit Veterinary Medical Center of Long Islannd. I highly recommend her and her staff. They were very friendly, efficient and informative. I also have to tell the fee they charge is even less than if you attended a CERF clinic. I had to call back because I thought I got the information incorrect. Other doctors are charging MUCH more for no apparent reason other than they just don't want to do it. These tests are important and have to be done every year so charging exorbitant amounts of money would only deter people from having them done which makes no sense. (?)

Duhblainn & Teagan Go on Vacation

Beth sent us some great pics of her dogs Dubhlain (Jasper) and Teagan (Kaley) swimming in the lake and at the cottage they stayed at in Maine. Looks like fun!!! Dubhlain loved swimming while Teagan liked only getting her feet wet. Can I come next year?

Beth was bombarded by people telling her she had the cutest cockers they had ever seen (of course) and even got an e-mail from one of the people she mets in regards to getting a new puppy one day! Keep up the cuteness!

Hot Dog Fest 2009

Moondrop Gardens celebrated their first Annual Hot Dog Fest this past weekend and WOW- it was so much fun. Even though the weather did not want to cooperate- all the dogs who had not seen each other in a while were on best behavior and had a blast. It was nice having many of the families meet each other since we chat on the google group and facebook- but never have met in person. I have a special relationship with all my puppy families so it was really nice to share this time with each other. They all have one very important thing in their life in common- their Moondrop Gardens Cocker Spaniel. It was nice to share stories, watch the puppies play together and see how they have grown from little puppies to big gorgeous cocker spaniels.

I am going to post some pictures here- but wait for everyone else's pictures and put together a slideshow.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for coming and bringing all that they did.

Thank you Theresa, Jamie, Caitlin, Danielle, Chris, Brian and Bella (Buttercup) for bringing the soda. You brought so much- we will have some for next year..LOL! Bella was a joy and we are so proud of her achievements.

We could not wait to taste the O'Brien's Tatertot Casserole and it was well worth the wait. Thank you Amy, Bill, Mikala, Collin and Betty Boop (Chamomile) for bringing it. Thanks Betty for the coolest kissing cocker salt and pepper shakers. I LOVE THEM SOOO MUCH! They look just like your mom and dad and i will cherish them forever.

Some families brought perennials to plant in Moondrop Gardens to represent their puppy. Because of the weather we could not have them plant them themselves- so we did it for them the next day.

It is my absolute pleasure to introduce my two newest girls. Serenity Cockers from upstate NY decided that they were going to retire and relocate. Linda told me she had 2 sweet girls with nice pedigrees that she needed to find a new home for. Before I even researched pedigrees and saw pictures I needed to be assured that these girls had EXCEPTIONAL temperaments. I could never take 2 adult girls into my home with the rest of my crew if they were not going to meld. Well sure enough these girls have the merriest attitudes around. They love everyone and everything. Serenity Linda's Love Laced Lala is a uniquely marked tri girl and Serenity's Sweet Merry Mumz for Mamma is a brightly colored red and white girl from sable lines. They have wonderful pedigrees and we are looking forward to fabulous puppies from them. I could not be happier. To read more about the girls- please visit their individual pages on the website. We anticipate puppies from Lala and Dillon to go home around Christmastime.

Delilah Graduates

We would like to congratulate Delilah for graduating from her puppy class. We took her to pump up her socialization skills and by the end of the class she was taking treats from the other people in the room and had made friends with our trainer, Suzanne.

If you live in the area and would like to take a class I highly recommend classes by Suzanne at PetSmart in Newburg. She is a FABULOUS trainer that really cares about your dog and has alot of experience to get you through your dog's training and all your dog's problem areas. I have had really great experiences and will be going back for sure. She tailors classes to your dog's specific needs and problems and is always available for extra support if you need it. Of course she gives you the tools and you need to work at it consistently with your dog. You will only get out of class what you put it. But we find it essential for socialization and basic training.

Can you believe it was a year since our first litter was born. Puppy Popsicles

I saw this idea somewhere so I can not take credit for it. Honestly I think it was a catalogue that sold a mold for this idea. I took a bowl filled it with dog friendly veggies and water and froze it. On a nice hot summer day I popped it out onto the floor and let them lick away. They all took turns scraping away for some carrots. TIP: If you use frozen veggies they float in the water and disperse better than unfrozen.

Home Sweet Home

Well it has come to that part in the timeline when I have to give up my puppies to their new owners. It is never easy as we do develop a special bond with them. The puppies know that bc months later when they come to visit- I am always greeted with puppy kisses. It makes my job a little easier knowing that they at least recognise my efforts for taking care of them their first 8 weeks of life. Lots of people ask about Rose and I know it is hard to let go- but knowing that we will have puppies again someday in the future and start all over again makes her smile.

In a few days my newest puppy parents will receive an invitation to join our Moondrop Gardens Google Group. Here they can introduce themselves to past parents and share pictures and stories of their Moondrop Gardens Puppy. It not public and is only open to our family members.

Sometimes people say- "I have never had an experience like this before getting a new puppy". And the reason for this is because I have had the experience to get a new puppy 4 times. Each and every time it was very different. I will not say it was a bad experience- but I just knew I would do it differently.

Part of the joy of actually doing this is the joy you can see on the faces of the families when they hold their puppy and know they are going home with it. I know that feeling and I love to watch others experience that.

They say every litter is a new experience. And "they(whoever they are)" are right. This litter woke me up to the fact that not everything is always going to be perfect. Breeders have issues that challenge their emotions of being human, being a mother, being realistic, and being a breeder. Its hard to be all those things at once. This was a learning experience as I am sure it will always be. I don't think I know it all- I just convince my daughter I do..LOL!

I am very happy to have met and welcome our new families. I know we will keep in touch for a long time and I know that all my puppies will be spoiled. Some of my friends who are not animal lovers think I am totally bazaar- but I have made alot of friends along the way that have shown me I am not the only bazaar person out there in the world- and for that I am thankful.

7 weeks and Counting....

Under no circumstance is this last week ever easy because the puppies have all developed their own personality and are all so playful and it is now that we prepare Daphne (and Rose, nad Myself) for the separation. She is not longer allowed to nurse them- and she does not sleep with them anymore. As a mother I can only feel for her as she whimpers and whines and wonders where her little babies are? Sometimes I think she doesn't realize that the big puppies are her little babies. They smell different and act different. We actually put a shirt on her to cover her teats so they are unreachable. Because if it were up to Daphne- she would hold on forever.

We went to the vet and I apologize for not having any pics from the event- but I almost threw my back out trying to carry all the puppies in + Dillon. I don't know what I was thinking when I made that appointment- but next time someone remind me to hire a personal assistant. The puppies all took their shots like champs and got a clean bill of health.

Last week Jasper took a ride with me to pick up Rose and he got a chance to meet a few kids. He did also poop in my car right on top of Rose's library book bag- she was so mad at him and gave him a lecture he would not forget....

The weather has been beautiful here and we are all welcoming spring; getting a chance to go outside a little. The puppies LOVE it!!!! I thought a winter litter would be quite boring- but turns out the are just in time to go home with the Easter Bunny and training will be much easier now than if it was much colder......

BTW- Dillon has learned to go in and out of the doggie door....which reminds me that when I took them outside Petunia decided she would learn in 3 minutes to go up and down the ramp what it took Dillon 3 weeks to learn...Speaking of Petunia; a few days ago I woke up said good morning to the puppies and proceeded to let my dogs out on the deck for a little running.. as they all exited one by one behind the gate: First Dempsey, Daphne, Delilah, Dillon (always waits his turn or he will be scolded by the elders) then a little puppy not in the usual line up cane hurrying out. It was Petunia!!!!!!!!!! She had escaped from the puppy pen and squeezed through the gate to party with the big boys (and girls). I hope Carl and Margaret have prepared their home - bc she is a trip- always ready to go and with an oh so innocent smile.

6 Weeks in the Garden

Th corned beef is boiling and the dogs are all savoring the aroma!
Saturday I decided that Jasper needed a haircut and after I was through I decided that he was so good I should try another. To my surprise everyone was doing so good- so I groomed them all. They look so cocker now- and soooo big. I am starting to get that lump in my throught when I think that it is less than 2 weeks they will be leaving me. I don't think about it tooo much when I have 8 weeks to go- but it stars to hit me right about now. Tomorrow they will go to the doctor and get their shots- and everyone is really doing well. Sunday they celebrated my birthday with me! I felt so loved and recieved a ton of puppy kisses!

They are eating their food dry now and everyone seems to have adjusted well. Here are some of my favorite pictures of our big and little puppies this week.

Dangerous Mulch

Our friend Patty (Bacardi's Mom) sent us this e-mail and thought we should share:

Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk . Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly. Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats. Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.' This Snopes site gives the following information:http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called ' Theobromine'. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine. "

Puppy Day 3/8/09

We were so happy to have the opportunity to meet some of our families this week. It will be a day that will stand out in my mind for a long time. Jim told me that the driveway was going to be a problem for people without 4 wheel drive- because the mud was unbearable. But I did not believe him until Quince's family showed up with their shoes in hand and had to walk the 700 foot driveway without sinking. I was totally embarrassed and really felt terrible.... Lucky for me when they met quince- it seemed like they had forgotten about it...(or I was probably just trying to make myself feel better.) Thank you all for being great sports and thank you for the cookies!!! Lucky enough I was able to get in touch with the remaining families and escort them to and from the mailbox with my car. With all the chaos -everyone was unable to meet my dogs- and I was really sorry for that because I spent like 7 hours grooming them all up for the occasion. Hopefully they will look as good in 3 weeks when you will definately meet them... Here are some pictures from the day. I now know for sure that the puppies will be going to wonderful homes where they will be well taken care of and completely spoiled. Hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did...(MIKE?>>LOL)

Running Around at 5 Weeks Old

On the RUN!!!!!!!!

What a week- it was like overnight they all turned into big puppies running and jumping all over the place. They spend most of the day upstairs hanging out with us and the other dogs. They are transported by laundry basket- and I do not know how much longer I will be able to make 1 trip---they are getting sooo heavy! Each day- 1 puppy gets to spend an entire evening after dinner int he den with us playing and exporing by themselves. This gives them a chance to have some alone time and get used to being away from their sisters and brothers. Another weeek and they will be really groomed. Some received little trims- but they really could use a full treatment.

and then a few days later their CANIDAE CHICKEN & RICE DOG FOOD; but it is soaked in water so it is not too hard for them.

This video is for Melissa (LOL)- she says her dogwas terrified of the vaccuum- so we made sure to adapt the puppies to vaccuuming - as you can see they remain sleeping and seem unfased- this is not thte first time I vaccuumed around them- so they are used to it..

This hilarious video (maybe it makes me a bad mom for thinking it is sooo funny) is Rose getting puppy ambushed in the morning. When they get to this age- all the puppies want to do is play- and it is a little overwhelming for a 4 year old to be ambushed by 7 puppies at once. I thought it was funny...but my poor baby Rose did not..lol...
